Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
